The River Thames is on our doorstep and we decided to re-acquaint ourselves with the tranquil and beautiful walk from Cookham to Bourne End. The parking is free and the stroll along the river banks are busy but filled with constant change for the eyes to capture.
It was good to see the dinghies out on the river from Cookham sailing club, reminded us of the long hot summer last year in Yarmouth and the River Yar and we carried on until we reached the very quirky Bounty pub. Not accessible by road, it is a very popular stop off point for walkers and river traffic alike serving good beers and good honest pub food at reasonable prices. Interestingly they have to receive their barrels of beers across the Thames in a boat from Bourne End marina.
There are plenty of vantage points along the walk to take photos and for the dogs and children to have fun in the water, though always beware the current of the Thames going downstream can be very strong, especially after heavy rain.
